Sentimental journey - revisited and updated

My father bought his first car - an Opel Kapitän Olympia - when I was just a little boy. I can still smell the car, feel the chairs, remember all the shiny accessories and all the family journeys. This was not just a car. This was OUR car. And when my father sold it, I secretly gave a goodbye kiss on the window screen... The truth!

Please share your own car memories with me and upload a pic of your first car (or your parent's first car) on your blog. I just can't wait to hear from you, so don't forget to leave a comment here!

Today I have replaced yesterday's pic by a better, more accurate one - after reading my brother's comment. Thanks, Frank! You are right, bro... Being 1,5 years older does make a little difference when it comes to our memories, right? ;-)

I recall several fondly. My dad's old farm truck I learned to drive on stands out. So does my first car - a HUGE 1972 Pontiac Bonneville. It was SO uncool :)

I don't really have anything to say about my first vehicle, 1971 Ford Galaxy that my sister and I bought when I was 14 in 1987. But I have posted about my latest vehicle that I bought a few months ago. You can read about it at http://vacantstares.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html

I also completed my interview questions.

Hey brother - you picked a model 1960 (P2) of the Opel Kapitän! Dad owned a pretty rare model 1959 (P1). See the difference at http://www.opel-p1.nl/kapitan/page_01.htm....
On this website the sentimental journey goes on - lots of pictures and brochures!

Thanks, Frank! That just goes to show how good my memory is... Thanks for the link, I will have a look and steal some pics there!
And of course I just wanted to provoke a comment from you by uploading the wrong pic of a German car (and that just goes to show how clever I am).
But seriously, I would like to have a pic here of the original car, so if you can help me...

Thanks for the inspiration to post about my old car. It was fun. (And the google picture you found was a lot like it, mine was a much uglier green through.)

Great idea Paul. My first car was a 1968 Plymouth Fury III. Check it out.

I never had a car of my own until after I graduated from college. I do remember station wagons with rear facing seats, a dark green car with Batman wings in back and my all time favorite car memory was our oxidized pink car named Monkey Puke (the previous owners named it and it stuck!!).

No picture, no blog on this one, just my comment -does that count?

I'm back. Reading the different blog stories actually makes me smile as my husband would have such a loving look on his face if he were reading them. He is an automechanic extraordinare and car lover. I enjoy watching the expressions on his and my 16 yo son's faces as they discuss cars, power and speed. Makes me want to duct tape their mouths so they don't egg each other on into dangerous territory as far as I'm concerned! ;) I have to walk away to preserve my sanity.
