Lust or Love - which side are you on?

For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world. 1 John 2:16

Paul said...: Yes, I agree - somebody is trying to make us passive Christians (he can't take us away from our Lord anymore, but he sure tries to steal our joy, distract us and make us inactive by turning our negative feelings of guilt and shame against us). I think Christians should be more open about the struggle to live a holy life. It is NOT easy to walk the narrow path! Of course we want to make a good impression to "the world" and to our brothers & sisters in Christ, but I know that it's not easy to live for Christ in a world filled with temptations and sin!
Last Sunday I was at a Neal Morse concert. I bought a cd and on one of his songs Neal says about Christians singing Holy, Holy, Holy in worship songs: "I KNOW GOD IS HOLY, BUT WHAT ABOUT US?"
That really makes me think! It's great to be SAVED, but we need to be gradualy changed into Christ's likeness and that is also a long and hard spiritual battle - we need to actively resist sin with God's help and maybe we even have to accept that there can be a thorn in our flesh that God doesn't take away on this side of Heaven!
Paul writes, "In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood." Heb. 12:4
I think this video from Life Church clearly shows us that we are not made by God to blindly obey our impulses and desires (because "we are only human"). Thanks for your comment, Carolanne!; 2/08/2007 10:37 am

Have you ever wondered why God gives so much? We could exist on far less. He could have left the world flat and grey; we wouldn’t have known the difference. But he didn’t. I do not condemn theologians wholesale, but it is unfortunately the fashion in Western thinking to doubt and deny everything. I protest this tendency. I never advise anyone to consult theologians, because all too often they have completely lost all sense of spiritual reality. They can explain Greek words and all that, but they spend too much time among their books and not enough time with the Master in prayer. In the Bible clouds are always associated with God. Clouds are the sorrows, sufferings, or providential circumstances, within or without our personal lives, which actually seem to contradict the sovereignty of God. Yet it is through these very clouds that the Spirit of God is teaching us how to walk by faith. If there were never any clouds in our lives, we would have no faith. "The clouds are the dust of His feet" (Nahum 1:3). They are a sign that God is there. What a revelation it is to know that sorrow, bereavement, and suffering are actually the clouds that come along with God!
